Unfulfilled memories, 2023
Unfulfilled Memories takes inspiration from the deep longing to explore my ancestral heritage and understand the impact of my family's history. By incorporating bricks from the old church, which once witnessed joyous church ceremonies and held the remains of the maternal ancestors, I add layers of significance and symbolism to my paintings. These bricks serve as links to the past, carrying the weight of bygone eras and preserving the memories of generations.
Within the paintings themselves, I’m trying to integrate fragments of old photographs, including images of my relatives and myself. By juxtaposing the photographs with fragments of the patterns found on the clothes worn by my maternal ancestors, I wave a narrative that merges personal history with broader cultural context, highlighting the interconnectedness of individual and collective experiences.
